Monolyth & Cobalt | 'Polarlicht' | Time Released Sound | 2014

Monolyth & Cobalt aka Mathias Van Eecloo is a self-taught musician and multi-instrumentalist, photographer, French artist who is based in Brittany, France. He runs Eilean rec labels dedicated to ambient music.
Several sound layers composed by glitches, guitar, loops, electronic processing deployed beautiful atmospheres alongwith childlike tiny melodies which embodied the music. The listener can feel in a friendly and intimate atmosphere surrounded by small noises, some processed guitar with glitches and hissing, dreamy twinkling bells, classical music recordings and voices.
'Polarlicht' conjures up cinematic atmospheres which are made with great delicacy. The recorded voices only make possible to broadcast short messages, maybe just broken words inviting the listener to imagine provocative or just naive scenes. At times it reminds me of The Caretaker with a blend of neoclassical and contemporary music.
All tracks on the album stand out for its handcraft like production overlapping sounds and accurately mixed with a great sense of harmony.
