Group Zero
 | “Structures and Light
” | Touch Sensitive Records | 2017

En “The Fantasist”

"Structures and Light" is the debut album of Belfast artist Group Zero's aka Cathal Cully. His musical influences are a mix of current musical proposals of labels such as LIES, Diagonal, Optimo Music, Blackest Ever Black and PAN, mid 70s and early 80s seminal bands in the likes of Cluster, Suicide, Malaria!, proto-techno before club music and there are also winks to electronic body music.
Cully’s interest for the making of this album is after having seen the "Structure and Light" by German painter and sculptor Heinz Mack, co-founder of the influential ZERO art movement of the mid-1960s.
On "The Fantasist" comes to mind groups like Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark for their rhythmic sequencies and dark synthesizer lines.
"Pursuit" and "Love and the Present" both are fine synth-pop like Eyeless In Gaza with its crystalline guitars and on "I Dream Unwired" I see references to Carter & Tutti and its 4/4 techno beats.
“Zero Symphony” that close the album has the power of guitar riffs and motorik synth beats which put a high point on this record.
