Loren Connors & Sergio Sorrentino | "Shadow" | Suoni Possibili | 2022

"Shadow" is the first collaboration between remarkable Brooklyn’s bluesman and guitarist Loren Connors, and Italian Sergio Sorrentino, an excellent contemporary/experimental musician ('The Wire').

Loren Connors has been improvising and composing for over 40 years and is one of the foremost guitarists in the world. With more than 100 albums released on labels such as Family Vineyard, Northern Spy, Drag City, Table of the Elements, Recital and RoadCone, among others. He has played with leading experimental artists such as Thurston Moore, Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, John Fahey, Alan Licht, Jandek and Kim Gordon. Connor has developed his career through rock, blues and experimental rock.

Sergio Sorrentino is one of the most outstanding contemporary guitarists. As a performer he promotes the contemporary classical guitar and electric guitar repertoire, and as a composer and improviser, he incorporates different genres such as contemporary classical music, minimalism, avant-garde and ambient music. Sorrentino plays alongside Gavin Bryars in the Gavin Bryars Italian Ensemble. He has also worked with renown composers and musicians such as Alvin Curran, John Russell, Machinefabriek, David Lang.

This album consists of two tracks “Shadow, part I” and “Shadow, part II”. The first one begins quietly where a very subtle guitar dialogue emerges, some fine plucking and effects that quickly turn into noise and accelerated pitch that goes in crescendo.

It seems that Connors' sounds are those related to riffs and Sorrentino's are found in sound experimentation. In any case, here we go into the space of improvisation and the creativity of two experienced and notable guitarists.
