En los últimos años, y producto de una segmentación muy focalizada de las propuestas y movimientos musicales, han aparecido un sinnúmero de reediciones de agrupaciones de diferentes tendencias musicales, como el minimal-synth-cold wave, la música industrial, el rock alemán, etc. Asistimos a la audición de bandas anónimas y desconocidas durante su existencia, sin embargo fueron parte y aporte en sus respectivas escenas en su momento. En estas ediciones existe además un fuerte valor testimonial e investigativo, ya que en la mayoría de las veces las grabaciones originales se encuentran en cintas, en poder de los artistas o en coleccionistas.
Vinyl On Demand (VOD) es un sello alemán, manejado por Frank Maier, especializado en la reedición en formato vinilo de artistas de diferentes tendencias del underground y vanguardia de los setenta y ochenta, en ediciones limitadas y de calidad, es así como llegamos a la edición de la agrupación inglesa Years on Earth (YOE).
Formados en 1979, inmersos en la cultura de las grabaciones caseras en cassette, la manipulación de sonidos, tapes y otros, Bob Roke y Mebz forman YOE. Editando sus grabaciones en forma artesanal, distribuyéndolas a través de tiendas especializadas logran revisiones en fanzines y círculos del underground inglés, sin embargo su propuesta no es conocida por una audiencia mayor. Sus cintas de 1984, Worlds Apart y Site, son editadas en el mismo formato por el sello suizo Calypso Now, quienes registrarían en 2010 su álbum homónimo editado en 1981. Esta última edición facilita el contacto y la edición de YOE en VOD.
Oriundos de Northampton, la propuesta musical de YOE guarda una conexión con la música industrial de norte de Inglaterra y de agrupaciones como Cabaret Voltaire o Eyeless in Gaza. A aquellos conocedores de estas referencias la audición de la propuesta les parecerá más que interesante, a la vez complementa y completa una escena muy creativa, oscura y única del post punk británico. In recent years, the product of a highly focused targeting of proposals and musical genres, have emerged countless of reissues from bands of different musical trends such as minimal-synth, cold wave, industrial music, German rock, etc. We attended to the listening of anonymous and unknown bands during its existence, however were part and contribute in their respective scenes at that time. On these issues, there is also a strong testimony and investigative value, since in most of the cases the original recordings are on tape, held by artists or collectors.
Vinyl On Demand (VOD) is a German label, run by Frank Maier, specialized in the reissue on vinyl of different artists and underground trends of the seventies and eighties, in limited editions and quality, this is how we find the released of the English band Years on Earth (YOE).
Formed in 1979, immersed in the culture of home recordings on cassette, sound manipulation, tapes and others, Bob Roke and Mebz formed YOE. Releasing their recordings on a small scale, distributing them through specialized record stores they achieved reviews in fanzines and circles of the English underground, but their proposal is not known by a wider audience. Their tapes of 1984, 'Worlds Apart' and 'Site', are released in the same format by the Swiss Calypso Now imprint that would record their self-titled album in 2010 originally released in 1981. In this latest released provides the contact and YOE's released on VOD.
Originally from Northampton, YOE's musical proposal keeps a connection to the Industrial music of Northern England and of bands like Cabaret Voltaire or Eyeless in Gaza. To those who are familiar with these references, the listening of the released will be more amazing, both complements and completes a very creative, dark and creative scene which is unique of British post punk.
