El sello
portugués Thisco fue fundado en 2001 por Luis Van Seixas y Fernando Cerqueira y
está dedicado a la música experimental, ambient, electro y electrónica. A través
de ANTIBOTHIS edita libros/antologías en CD, entrevistas y textos.
La discografía del
sello incluye prominentes artistas del underground como Rapoon, Merzbow, Lasse
Marhaug, Rasal-Asad (uno de los proyectos de Cerqueira), Sci Fi Industries,
entre otros.
El artista
portugués Rui Bentes aka shhh tiene varios discos editados en Thisco y otros
sellos y produce música para filmes, teatro, exhibiciones, locaciones, museos,
entre otros espacios. Tiene el proyecto paralelo The Sleeper Has Awakened junto
a Helder Luis y ha colaborado con Sci-fi Industries, Dave Philips,
Thisquietarmy, Rasal.Asad, Anla Courtis, Philippe Petit, Martin A. Smith,
Zenial, Bolt, Fragment, Cris x, Francisco López, Kenji Siratori y Carlos
Zingaro.
La carátula del
disco produce cierto embrujo con la cara de un perro y sus escalofriantes ojos
oscuros, es un preámbulo para la música punzante, ritmos quebrados y atmósferas
inquietantes.
“I, of the storm”
consiste en cinco pistas prensadas en un vinilo editado por Thisco el 11 de
abril de este año.
En “As she drives
by” se despliegan nerviosas percusiones junto a potentes bombos saturados. “Falling
antennas” continua en la línea anterior, con entrecortadas percusiones y
matices ruidistas. “The first day of heavy rain” comienza con una grabación de gallinas
que revolotean nerviosas como esperando la muerte, mientras que de telón de
fondo se tiñe de una electrónica ambiental oscura y surge repentinamente un monólogo
de una mujer. Todo ello envuelto en un ambiente borroso y lúgubre.
“Collapse dream” ya
sugiere imágenes revueltas y caóticas en las que irrumpe una filuda guitarra
que teje una melodía épica, junto a una convulsa percusión electrónica. Se abre
un paréntesis de sosiego para atacar nuevamente el aullido de la guitarra y los
beats incesantes. ¡Gran tema!
Finalmente, “A swarm
of us”, muestra la grabación del diálogo de una película (me imagino) mientras
las notas de un sintetizador arrancan con sus secuencias intermitentes y
penetrantes para soltar con fuerza una devastadora percusión. Luego viene la
calma, el respiro necesario para retomar este azaroso viaje.

Portuguese Thisco

"I, of the
storm" consists of five tracks pressed on a vinyl format released on
Thisco in April 11 of this year.
On "As she
drives by" nervous percussions are deployed alongwith powerful and saturated
drums. "Falling antennas" continues on the previous line, with
intermittent percussions and noise nuances. "The first day of heavy
rain" starts with a recording of chickens that flutter nervously as if
waiting for death, while the background is tinged with dark ambient electronics
and suddenly a monologue of a woman emerges. All wrapped up in a blurry and
lugubrious ambience.
"Collapse
dream" already suggests wild and chaotic images in which a sharp guitar
bursts into an epic melody, together with a convulsive electronic percussion. A
quiet parenthesis is opened to attack again the guitar howling and the
incessant beats. Great song!
Finally, "A
swarm of us", shows the recording of the dialogue taken from a movie (I guess)
while the synthesizer notes start with their intermittent and penetrating
sequences to release with force a devastating percussion. Then comes the calm,
the necessary lull to resume this hazardous journey.
