V/A, | 'Audio Arts Volume 7,8 & 9' | CRES Media Arts Committee | CFRO C-op Radio| 2013

This compilation brings together the work of sound artists in residence and commissioned in the MAC (Media Arts Committee) studio of the Co-op Radio in Vancouver between 2009 and 2012.
This is a good opportunity to know about the experimental music scene in Vancouver with 28 artists participating in this compilation and working in different musical styles such as noise, field recordings, electroacoustic computer music, drone, ambient, among other genres.
From Noel Deschene's processed field recordings to other pure one as Cameron Catalano that records the screams of enthusiasm of people at a sporting event, drones and deep bass of Souns & Scant Intone, Paddy Ryan's computer music, the sound design of Josh Rose, Tomas Jirku's (from the only one I had heard before) ambient drone, the avant-garde of Soressa Gardner, the noisiness of Adam Jennings, experimenting on microscopic noise by Chilean Víctor Ballesteros (who opens the volume 7) and the improvisation of Free/Space with its haunted voices.
And the journey continues with Four Movements with the string ensemble combining dissonant notes and a background drone that builds up an amazing wall of sound that come together with subtle melodies and Emma Hendrix with her processed bagpipes and glitches creating a stunning epic atmosphere.
