JWPaton es un músico Yuin que vive en Darug Country, en el oeste de Sydney. La nación Yuin es un grupo de pueblos aborígenes australianos de la costa sur de Nueva Gales del Sur.
Nuestro protagonista ha estado activo desde 2017 con varios lanzamientos publicados en su sitio de Bandcamp y el último de ellos, en el prestigioso sello australiano Room40.
Paton crea paisajes sonoros a través de composiciones electrónicas enraizadas en los estilos noise, drone y experimental, junto a una guitarra y registros de campo obtenidas en entornos naturales y en sitios interiores.
“West Sydney Sunset” abre este álbum con una grabación de voces y ruidos que provienen de un espacio doméstico y, a medida que avanza la pieza, surge una onda expansiva con los efectos de la guitarra eléctrica, mientras se superpone una capa de líneas ambientales y también de chasquidos de ruido que colisionan entre sí. La canción homónima flota en un ambiente con delicados acordes de guitarra y diálogos incompresibles, mientras “Aunty” con sus ruidos caseros dan paso a un diálogo entre la guitarra y los teclados con una textura low-fi, algo rugosa y polvorienta. En “Walking Time” hay un suave sonido metálico cuyos timbres se asemejan a una campana lo que transcurre en una atmósfera calma. El último track “Walking In Reverse” es una pared de sonido impenetrable que se mantiene como una nota sostenida, sin que se produzcan variaciones, sólo aquellas que el oyente puede intuir a través de su propia imaginación.
JWPaton nos entrega un disco que crea paisajes sonoros que evocan ideas que Paton retrotrae de hace algunos años como: “La tecnología y su lugar en el mundo natural. La forma en que el trabajo y las habilidades dan forma a la identidad. Cómo mis antepasados eran, en muchos sentidos, más avanzados que la sociedad en la que vivo hoy. Una especie de futurismo antiguo”.
JWPaton is a Yuin musician living in Darug Country, Western Sydney. The Yuin Nation is a group of Australian Aboriginal people from the south coast of New South Wales.

Paton creates soundscapes through electronic compositions rooted in noise, drone and experimental music, along with a guitar and field recordings which are captured in natural environments and indoors sites.
“West Sydney Sunset” opens the album with a recording of voices and noises that come from a domestic space and, as the piece progresses, arise an expansive wave with the electric guitar effects, whereas superimposing a layer of ambient lines and also clicks of noise that collide with each other. The song “Structures” hover into an environment with delicate guitar chords and incomprehensible dialogues, while “Aunty” with its homemade noises gives way to a dialogue between the guitar and the keyboards with a low-fi texture, somewhat rough and dusty. In “Walking Time” there’s a soft clanging whose timbres resemble a bell which takes place in a calm atmosphere. The last track “Walking In Reverse” is an impenetrable wall of sound that remains as a sustained note, without variations, only those that the listener can intuit through its own imagination.
JWPaton delivers an album that creates soundscapes that evoke ideas that Paton brings back from a few years now such as: “Technology and its place in the natural world. The way labour and skill shape identity. How my ancestors were in many ways more advanced than the society I live in today. A kind of ancient futurism.”
