CONTRASTATE
CONTRASTATE es un trío británico de música experimental formado en 1987 en Londres que trabaja en los subgéneros ambient y postindustrial con más de discos 20 discos publicados en sellos como Tesco Organisation, Mort Aux Vaches (subsello del legendario Staalplaat), Noise Museum, Black Rose Recordings (cuyo dueño es uno de los miembros de Contrastate, Stephen Meixner), Old Europa Cafe y Drone Records que publica “Life Without Agriculture”, segundo álbum de este trío.
Este álbum está inspirado en los clubes dadaístas, futuristas y surrealistas del siglo XX, desde Moscú de 1918 hasta Teherán de 1966 y Münster de 1997. Este movimiento surgió en un café en Zúrich, en el año 1916. En este lugar los cantantes se presentaban y se le permitía recitar poemas. Después de que la Primera Guerra Mundial comenzara, esa ciudad acabó convirtiéndose en un refugio para personas de toda Europa.
Contrastate utiliza la guitarra, bajo, electrónica analógica pulsante, spoken-word y todo tipo de sampleos. Desde el comienzo con “Muenster 1997” asistimos al desarrollo de atmósferas sombrías y al mismo tiempo inquietantes que cautivan por su misterio que se refuerza con los spoken-word de personajes enigmáticos.
En “Zurich 1916” podemos encontrar vestigios de Cabaret Voltaire con sus punzantes ritmos de sintetizadores y de Rapoon por sus drones de largo desarrollo y pulsantes beats repetitivos. El video del track «London 1912» con su estética en blanco y negro, evocando a principios del Siglo XX, representa a este álbum por sus abstractos y oscuros paisajes sonoros.

This album is inspired by the Dadaist, futurist and surrealist clubs of the 20th century, from Moscow in 1918 to Tehran in 1966 and Münster in 1997. This movement arose in a cafe in Zurich, in 1916. In this place the singers performed, and they were allowed to recite poems. After the First World War began, that city ended up becoming a refuge for people from all over Europe.
Contrastate uses guitar, bass, pulsating analog electronics, spoken-word and all kinds of samples. From the beginning with “Muenster 1997” we witness the development of somber and at the same time disturbing atmospheres that captivate with its mystery that is reinforced with the spoken-word of enigmatic characters.
In “Zurich 1916” it can be find vestiges of Cabaret Voltaire with its sharp synthesizer rhythms and of Rapoon, for its long-developed drones and pulsating repetitive beats. The video for the track «London 1912» with its black and white aesthetic, evoking the early 20th century, represents this album for its abstract and dark ambience soundscapes.
