Laura Masotto
Masotto es una violinista y compositora italiana con formación en música clásica que comenzó a tocar a la temprana edad de cinco años. Se graduó en el Conservatorio de Verona y comenzó su carrera musical a los 15. Con ello, Massoto está activa hace casi 25 años, publicando su álbum debut “Fireflies” (2019) en su sello Lady Blunt Records, luego en 2021 publica “WE”, por el sello alemán 7K! y este año “The Spirit Of Things”, también en el mismo sello. Ha realizado conciertos en orquestas de cámara y sinfónicas en toda Europa, además de componer bandas sonoras como el álbum “Here and Now” por Flipper Music. Además, ha grabado para Deutsche Grammophon y tiene discos en colaboración con otros(as) artistas.
El violín es el instrumento central de Masotto, acompañado por la viola, los tambores chamánicos y los sintetizadores analógicos que juegan un rol fundamental pues, según Masotto: “Quería crear un espacio musical en el que pudiera tener libertad para improvisar”, dice. “Esto me permitió dejar que mis emociones fluyeran de manera incondicionada y permitir que los temas nacieran orgánicamente en su propio espacio sagrado, mientras busco una conexión entre la espiritualidad de la tierra, los animales y los seres humanos a través de la música”. Por ello, el título del álbum muestra una dimensión casi metafísica, dado el acercamiento que tuvo la violinista al chamanismo.
Este álbum cuenta con la colaboración de varios artistas como los productores y compositores italianos Davide Tomat en “Labirinto”, Federico Bisozzi en “Totem” y Matteo Zanferrari en “Floating”, La pista “Under the Bombs”, es la banda sonora de un vídeo creado por el artista visual Nicholas Bertini.
“The Spirit Of Things” consiste en diez piezas que despliegan una emocionalidad intensa con momentos edificantes y otros melancólicos que bien podrían adaptarse a una banda sonora para una película. “Dark Horse”, single lanzado por el sello con sede en Berlín, muestra los sintetizadores aéreos que le dan un marco de ensueño a ese mundo en el que convive el ser humano con su entorno primigenio. La oleada de instrumentos de cuerda crea una marea de paisajes sonoros que provocan momentos de tensión, los que son matizados por el viento suave del violín y la viola que soplan sin rumbo. Se advierten sutilmente en “The Body Is a Tree” los tambores chamánicos que marcan un ritmo constante como si fuera la preparación de un rito al mundo de los espíritus.

Masotto is a classically trained Italian violinist and composer who began playing at the young age of five. She graduated from the Verona Conservatory and began her musical career at the age of 15. With this, she has been active for almost 25 years, publishing her debut album “Fireflies” (2019) on her label Lady Blunt Records, then in 2021, she releases “WE”, on the German label 7K! and this year “The Spirit Of Things”, 7K!. Masotto’s violin is central as an instrument, accompanied by the viola, shamanic drums and analog synthesizers that play a fundamental role because, according to Masotto, “I wanted to create a musical space in which I could be free to improvise. This allowed me to let my emotions flow in an unconditioned way and allow the tracks to be born organically in their own sacred space as I search for a connection between the spirituality of the earth, animals, and human beings through music.” For this reason, the album’s title shows an almost metaphysical dimension, given the violinist’s approach to shamanism.
This album features the collaboration of several artists such as the Italian producers and composers Davide Tomat in “Labirinto”, Federico Bisozzi in “Totem” and Matteo Zanferrari in “Floating”. The track “Under the Bombs” is the soundtrack of a video created by visual artist Nicholas Bertini.
“The Spirit Of Things” consists of ten pieces that display intense emotionality with uplifting and melancholic moments that could well be adapted to a soundtrack for a film. “Dark Horse”, a single released by the Berlin-based label, shows the airy synthesizers that give a dreamlike framework to that world in which human beings coexist with their primal environment. The wave of string instruments creates a tide of soundscapes that provoke moments of tension, which are nuanced by the soft wind of the violin and viola that blow aimlessly. It can subtly notice in “The Body Is a Tree” the shamanic drums that set a constant rhythm as if it were the preparation of a rite to the spirit world.
