Michael Morley es un guitarrista experimental, activo desde los ’80, más conocido como miembro de la banda de Nueva Zelanda, The Dead C. Joachim Nordwall es un músico, curador, productor creativo, sueco, fundador del prestigioso sello iDEAL Recordings. Su extensa discografía es a través de colaboraciones con músicos tales como Mika Vainio, John Duncan, Mats Gustafsson, por nombrar algunos.
El título de este álbum “An Island Is An Island” se refiere al carácter isleño de ambos músicos. Mientras Morley está radicado en Te Wai Pounamu, Isla Sur, Nueva Zelanda, Joachim Nordwall vive en Isla de Brännö, Suecia, desde estos dos puntos distantes geográficos, realizaron un trabajo colaborativo a través de la correspondencia, en el que intercambiaron ideas, archivos de audio y grabaron este disco que consiste en dos largos tracks.
“An Island Is An Island (Part One)” comienza con las notas bajas de la guitarra, mientras un cliqueo somnoliento se desliza sobre la superficie en este entorno oscuro y cautivante. Luego se desarrolla un efecto de ruido en la guitarra y se acelera el cliqueo, como el sonido de un pequeño motor, alcanzando gran intensidad, no obstante, sobre la mitad del track, vuelve a la quietud vacilante del comienzo. En “An Island Is An Island (Part Two)” aparecen unas líneas melódicas que deambulan por el espacio, en tanto un ruido oblicuo y repetitivo hace de contrapunto en este ambiente elegíaco, como si representara una banda sonora distópica, todo ello creado por dos músicos que experimentan en música de otro mundo.

Joachim Nordwall is a Swedish musician, curator, creative producer, founder of the prestigious iDEAL Recordings label. His extensive discography is through collaborations with musicians such as Mika Vainio, John Duncan, Mats Gustafsson, to name a few.
The album title “An Island Is An Island” refers to the island character of both musicians. While Morley is based in Te Wai Pounamu, South Island, New Zealand, Joachim Nordwall lives in Brännö Island, Sweden, from where, through correspondence, they carried out a collaborative work in which they exchanged ideas, audio files and recorded this album that consists of two longform tracks.
“An Island Is An Island (Part One)” begins with guitar low notes, whereas a sleepy click glides over the surface in this dark and haunting setting. Then a guitar noise effect unforlds and the clicking accelerates, like the sound of a small engine, reaching great intensity, however, about halfway through the track, it returns to the hesitant stillness of the beginning. In “An Island Is An Island (Part Two)” some melodic lines appear that wander through space, while an oblique and repetitive noise acts as a counterpoint in this elegiac atmosphere, as if it represented a dystopian soundtrack, all created by two musicians who experiment in music from the outer world.
