Amelia Cuni y Werner Durand vienen trabajando como dúo hace más de 20 años, fusionando su canto Raga indio al estilo Dhrupad con su enfoque minimalista y experimental.La italiana Amelia Cuni es cantante, compositora e intérprete. Ha entrenado su voz y sus habilidades musicales en la India.Werner Durand – actualmente afincado en Berlín – es un compositor, constructor de instrumentos e intérprete de música experimental alemán. Desde finales de los setenta toca saxofón, ney iraní e instrumentos de viento de fabricación propia.Al dúo se une Uli Hohmann con una gama de tambores de mano de Oriente Medio y el norte de África, además de una guitarra martillada con sonido de dulcémele. “Seconds of Thirst” que abre al álbum, muestra una pieza de drone acompañado por los clarinetes de PVC de Durand, junto al raga de Amelia Cuni que navega por una densa atmósfera con un carácter hipnótico y los suaves acordes de la guitarra martillada de Uli Hohmann. “Byss” comienza con la percusión de tambores, mientras la voces de Amelia Cuni y Uli Hohmann surcan el espacio aéreo, como si fuera el cántico de alguna ceremonia religiosa india. “Ferry” desarrolla una percusión que se mantiene en el fondo a un bajo volumen, en tanto las voces procesadas se mueven en distintas capas de tonos ondulantes y también sostenidos que se encuentran y flirtean entre sí. The three musicians have a long musical background. Amelia Cuni and Werner Durand have been working as a duo for over 20 years, fusing their Dhrupad-style Indian Raga singing with their minimalist and experimental approach.
Italian Amelia Cuni is a singer, songwriter and performer. She has trained her voice and her musical skills in India.
Werner Durand – currently based in Berlin – is a German composer, instrument maker and experimental music performer. Since the late seventies he plays saxophone, Iranian ney and self-made wind instruments.
The duo is joined by Uli Hohmann with a range of Middle Eastern and North African hand drums, plus a dulcimer-sounding hammered guitar.
“Seconds of Thirst”, which opens the album, shows a drone piece accompanied by Durand’s PVC clarinets, along with Amelia Cuni’s raga that navigates into a dense atmosphere with a hypnotic character and the soft chords of Uli’s hammered guitar. “Byss” begins with the percussion of drums, while the voices of Amelia Cuni and Uli Hohmann soar through the air, as if it were the chant of some Indian religious ceremony. “Ferry” unfold a percussion that remains in the background at a low volume, while the processed voices move in different layers of undulating and sustained tones that meet and flirt with each other. The setting is delicately hypnotic. “Clearing” that closes the album shows a more vigorous drum rhythm, along with sustained notes that are the backdrop of an endlessly journey.
The trio’s music produces a deeply immersive experience with varied explorations with voices and percussive timbres into a trance-inducing experience.
