«Feral Lands & Forbidden Cities» es la segunda entrega grabada en Bruselas en 2019, luego de su anterior álbum “A Morphology of Wonders” (Aguirre Records, 2021). Estos dos discos son parte de una serie que comprenderá cuatro álbumes.Timelash es un dúo formado por el chileno Nicolás Carcavilla, quien desarrolla distintas facetas con sus proyectos Embassador Dulgoon, Timelash, Rennek, Archimboldos, Elementals’ Orrery, La Síntesis, Nonlocal Society y The Righteous Province. Además, gestiona el sello Nonlocal Research. La otra mitad del dúo es el norteamericano Grant Corum, produciendo música como Corum, Half Real, Muroc, Rubble Burglar, The Orchardist y en la banda Million Brazilians. Corum está al frente del sello Psychic Sounds. Junto a los teclados, flauta y demás dispositivos electrónicos, la música de Timelash está enraizada en el retrofuturismo, combinando una estética de la ciencia ficción del siglo XX, con un sonido orgánico que sugiere imágenes oníricas, alienígenas y fantasmagóricas.La apertura la inicia “A Stranger In Time” con oscuras líneas sintetizadas de carácter cinemático, para hacer su entrada “Primal Plateau” con sus sutiles pulsos rítmicos y melodías aéreas con los teclados, entremedio, se cuelan una diversidad de pequeños ruidos acuáticos. En “Outside Grottos of Time” el espacio se expande y se abre una ventana que muestra un paisaje exuberante, mientras los sintetizadores deambulan en las alturas con esa melodía épica que hilvanan. “Sandrunner’s Pass” posee un halo tribal acompañado por una percusión trepidante y tonos ondulantes que evoca un mundo mágico y perdido. Como el título de la canción “Chalkwing’s Floating Pagoda” lo sugiere la influencia de la música oriental se refleja en las flautas y la percusión lúdica. Cierra el álbum “Shadows of the Skyfish” que contiene diversas capas que comprenden una guitarra sampleada que emite agudos punteos, así como formas orquestadas que despliegan los teclados y pequeñas viñetas de ruidos sintéticos. Timelash nos sugiere un cosmos lejano, de ensueño que mira al futuro con sonidos electrónicos de otro mundo y texturas orgánicas, junto a un bálsamo de melodías épicas.
«Feral Lands & Forbidden Cities» is the second release recorded in Brussels in 2019, after their previous album “A Morphology of Wonders” (Aguirre Records, 2021). These two full-lenght are part of a series that will comprise four albums.
Timelash is a duo formed by Chilean Nicolás Carcavilla, who develops different facets with his projects Embassador Dulgoon, Timelash, Rennek, Archimboldos, Elementals’ Orrery, La Síntesis, Nonlocal Society and The Righteous Province. Additionally, he runs the Nonlocal Research label. The other half of the duo is North American Grant Corum, producing music as Corum, Half Real, Muroc, Rubble Burglar, The Orchardist and plays in the band Million Brazilians. Corum runs the Psychic Sounds label.
Along with keyboards, flute, and other electronic devices, Timelash’s music is rooted in retrofuturism, combining a 20th century science fiction aesthetic along with an organic sound that suggests dreamlike, alien and ghostly images.
The opening begins with “A Stranger In Time” with dark synthesized lines of a cinematic nature, and then makes its entry “Primal Plateau” with subtle rhythmic pulses and keyboards’s airy melodies, in between a variety of small aquatic noises. In “Outside Grottos of Time” the space expands, and a window opens showing a lush landscape, while the synths wander in the heights with that epic melody that string together. “Sandrunner’s Pass” has a tribal halo accompanied by fast-paced percussion and wavering tones that evokes a magical, dreamlike world. As the song title “Chalkwing’s Floating Pagoda” suggests, the Oriental music influence is reflected in the flutes and playful percussion. Closes the album “Shadows of the Skyfish” which contains various layers that include a sampled guitar that emits sharp plucks, as well as orchestrated shapes that deploy the keyboards and small vignettes of synthetic noises.
Timelash suggests a distant, dreamlike world that looks to the future with otherworldly electronic sounds and organic textures, along with a balm of epic melodies.
